The first time I saw the works of Ausgang was in the book Pop Surrealism, the rise of underground art, bought at the same time of Ron English POPaganda. From all the paintings my eye was to the work of Ausgang. Not only because match perfectly about my research of the color or the pop art school, but mainly because of the movement inside his paintings. Yes, the movement. Normally a painting is a photography of something: a landscape, a portrait, something in his imagination. Always static. But on the series hotrod of Ausgang the painting become a small film you can imagine.
In all paintings you have static picture or personages photographed that are doing a movement. But not personages in movement. Thanks to his technique the personages move, like the first film machines with a succession of photographies and you can imagine this movement. And when you imagine you have not only the images in front of your eyes, but also what could happen before, what will happen after and all the context in between the action happens. It is a cartoon film in just a painting format. What’s better? You don’t need a TV, each time you look at, you can image a different argument.
Why not go ahead with more personages given dozen of movements and introduce them in a background in order to express something? A painting where you see different personagesand each one executes different movements, where all is part of a history that’s painted but at the same time you can imagine the sequences and what happened before, what’s happen now and what will happen after. Now imagine all of that inside a background to provoke you to think about. Where you not only give movement but moreover you think about what suggest you they are doing and at what you do with this personages.
